7. Making a Splash - Pools and Baths
56 MAKING A SPLASH wooden architectural styles. It is set in small grounds, which in the summer serve as a sun bathing and relaxation area. The official address is Simonyi Zsigmond u. 31. This is way out in the east of Pest, but actually very easy to reach being only a few minutes walk from the “Kőbánya-Kispest" terminus of the “blue”, no. 3 metro line (to the left from the metro exit). There is a 33-metre main pool (with saunas by the pool) and a fairly large, separate children’s pool. Swimming caps are necessary but can be bought or hired on the spot. Spectators are allowed entrance to the main pool’s seats, if they bring their own slippers. On the last day in every month spectator-adults are admitted to the children’s pool area to observe their children’s swimming progress. There are no family cabins, but assistance can be given with small children in the male or female changing rooms (which are reached by steps). Hairdriers are available. There is a small buffet area on the ground floor with a limited view of the children’s pool. Open all year round 6-21 (6-19 at weekends). Last tickets one hour before closing. Summer activities are organised for children — information on 127-5888 or 128-4266. Kondorosi Street Sports Centre [Kondorosi úti uszoda] A very pleasant, modern, indoor swimming baths with a family atmosphere situated in the south of the city centre on the Buda side at Kondorosi út 14. (Trams no. 18 and 47 along Fehérvári út from Móricz Zsigmond körtér in Buda. You can also get the former from Deák tér and the latter from Moszkva tér.) There is a 33-metre, 8-lane main pool (27°C) and a 16-metre children’s pool (32°C). Swimming caps are necessary, though these can be hired on the spot as can hairdriers. No cabins available and wheelchair access is not good. Spectators are not allowed into the pool area, though there are seats available in the entrance area which looks down onto the main pool. There is a buffet here. Inside there is also a sauna, solarium, an adults’ and children’s hairdresser and a fitness studio
