7. Making a Splash - Pools and Baths

MAKING A SPLASH 57 where there are children’s gymnastics. The grounds outside are used for sun bathing in the summer (café here) and there are also tennis courts which can be hired. Open all year Monday-Friday 6-20, Saturday 6-18, Sunday 6-17. Last entrance one hour before closing. Telephone: 166-0332 or 166-0211. The following all have pools with good wheelchair ac­cess. The first two are new hotels and the facilities are very modern. Season tickets can reduce the high prices somewhat. Aquincum Thermal Hotel At 94 Árpád fejedelem útja, facing the Danube at the Buda end of Árpád Bridge. One large swimming pool and two fairly shallow thermal pools, jacuzzi. Cabins available, caps necessary, though these and other items can be hired. Tel: 188-6360 Helia Thermal Hotel On the Pest side of the Danube opposite the middle of Margaret Island. Entrance at 62-64 Kárpát u. (no. 79 trolleybus from near Jászai Mari tér at the Pest end of Margaret Bridge). 20 m main pool, two “sitting” pools, one of which is thermal, plus jacuzzi. Caps not neces­sary. Cabins and sauna available. Spectators allowed in with special slippers. Access to sun terrace in the sum­mer. Water gymnastics exercises for children can be organised. Pool open 7-20. Quietest time is the early morning. Tel: 129-8650 or 149-5170 Thermal Hotel At the north end of Margaret Island (no. 26 bus from Nyugati tér or from “Árpád hid” metro station). One swimming and two thermal pools. The management does not recommend small children using the thermal pools because of the high temperature.
