36 SWINGS AND SAND PITS Károlyi kert This quiet garden is hidden behind the Petőfi Literary Museum on Károlyi Mihály u. not far from Ferenciek tere in the very centre of Pest. There is also access from Múzeum körút along Ferenczy u. and through some connecting courtyards. The playground is in two parts and has a total of six swings, five slides and two large sand-pits. There is also a wooden car and a wooden climbing frame. Between the play areas there is a large gravel area suitable for playing ball. In the middle and around it there are plenty of benches. The garden is a popular sun-trap and quiet lunch-time resting place. Across from the southeast corner of the square is the entrance to no. 28 Magyar utca. Through here is an inner courtyard where you can see a section of the ancient, crenellated, medieval city wall of Pest. Carry on and you come into Múzeum körút. Jászai Mari tér By the Pest end of Margaret Bridge. A popular play­ground, though surrounded by swirling traffic. Six swings, six climbing frames, sand-pits, slide, table-tennis table, lots of seats and benches, pay-toilets. Jókai tér This is a small square off Andrássy út very near the “Octogon” junction. In front of the puppet theatre (11) at the back end of the square is a fenced-in playground with wooden castle and slide, nine swings and large sand-pit. Some seats are available. Across Andrássy út is another, longer square, Liszt Ferenc tér. Although not a playground, it is a pedestrian way with lots of seats, trees, strolling area, etc. At the far end is the Academy of Music. Parliament By the north end of the parliament building there is a small, quiet garden with three swings and a sand-pit. The statue here is of Mihály Károlyi, the first president of republican Hungary in 1918. Just beyond the block to the north of this garden there
