Buza Péter: Bridges of the Danube - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1999)

The concept of another railway bridge in the north­ern region of the capital was originated in 1892. Planning and construction was carried out by an Italian company, Societa Nazionale delle Ufficine di Savigliane. The Újpest Railway Bridge was opened in 1896. The first adjustments and the renovation of the structure were made in 1932. After World War 11 the bridge was modernized utilizing the old piers. Bridges of the Danube branches in the Budapest region should not be left unmentioned. The first one was opened in 1858 connecting the Óbuda Shipyard with Buda. As a sliding bridge, a techno­logical curiosity, it could let ships pass by. It remained in service until 1884 when it was replaced The Northern Railway Bridge 55
