Buza Péter: Bridges of the Danube - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1999)

The stone commemorating the long-serving TEMPORARY BRIDGE ON THE QÜAY by a steel bridge whose middle portion could be raised by pulleys in 7 minutes allowing the passage of ships. The hoist bridge was in turn replaced by a stretched and reinforced concrete structure in 1969. Clnlike its predecessors, this bridge has no peculiarity. For the last thirty years prior to its construction there was no longer any need to raise the middle of the earlier bridge for the sake of ships passing at high water levels. There is another bridge leading to Óbuda Island. It was built in 1955 to serve the shipyard, establishing not only a road but also a railway connection. Its less than appealing appearance can be overlooked if we take into consideration that it was meant to be a temporary bridge. 56
