Matits Ferenc: Protestant Churches - Our Budapest (Budapest, 2003)

Formed in 1871, the branch parish of the Unitarian Church in Budapest became an independent parish and in another ten years’ time it had its own pastor. Initially, the parish held its services in a room provided by Calvinists, after which they were allowed to use another room given to them by the Deák tér Lutheran congregation. Soon afterwards the Unitarians requested a plot, which was granted by the municipality in 1884. This was followed by the launching of a fund raising campaign both at home and abroad, but the Unitarian Church turned out to be unable to raise the funds required for a church and a parson­age, which is why they made an agreement with an entrepreneur to start the construction work with his money. By way of compensation the businessman was offered the revenue generated for fifty years, from 1890 to 1940, from the letting of a tenement block to be raised next to the church.
