Our intercourse with American Unitarians was started by Alexander Farkas of Bölön, who inJ83(kj^hen travelling in America, came into contact with many of them, and coming home, told the Representative Con sistory of Transylvanian Unitarians his experinees there. Almost at the same time the secretary of the American Unitarian Association Mr. H. Ware wrote a letter to prof. Sylvester, in which, saluting Transylvanian Uni» tarians, he assured them of their brotherly love, and asked for information as to their condition, for he hoped that by a brotherly communication these parts of the globe could be bound together. Upon this our Representative Consistory in 1825. sent an information to London addressing the letter to Rob. Aspland and W. T. Fox, and explaining the past and presont condition of our church The sympathising souls have discovered each other. And the contact between sons of the different nations, who were one in faith and enthusiastic for liberal cons­titution, not only became stronger and stronger, but also entirely brotherly. After this there followed a long silence, which was broken only in 1848. by Joseph Jakab a minister at Kolozsvár who studying at the university of Göttingen 1846—47. got acquainted there with a Unitarian student, whom for friendship’s sake he accompanied to London and there he became acquainted with many Unitarians. He was present at some meetings and visited the professors of Manchester New College. He travelled in Scotland and preached in English there and in London. On his return home, for the first time he made the suggestion: whether it would not be advisable to have our ministers and professors finish
