t 127 K their studies in London ? His idea was realised in 1859. when Mr. Steinthal, a member of the anniversary meeting in London, proposed, that it would be desirable to have two Unitarian students from Transylvania in their College, who should study theology there for two years. In order to carry this out, it was resolved that both the English and Transylvanian Unitarians should offer yearly \ L. 100. each. And when two students had finished their studies there should be always two others to take their place. The Student, who in 1860—1862. first enjoyed this was Mr. Dominik Simén — our eminent theologian. After him up to this day, many of our better students have enjoyed this benefit. We feel sorry, that our Curch was too poor to offer the other L. 100, for the consequence of this was, that at one time we could not send more than one student to avail himself of the foundation,/ which was laid for us entirely by our English brethren/ In 1882 at the anniversany meeting in London, it was decided that our students should stay in the Col-' lege not for two but three years, in order to be able to master the English languago thoroughly. This resolution was accepted by our General Consistory. The great effect of this foundation is undeniable,/ for it has not only served to make it possible for our students to get a higher education, but also to strengthen the connection which was brought about by the sympathising fellow-believers of two different countries ; and moreover it has constantly kept up and heightened the love and honour which they bear to each other. The great intimacy of our connection with English Unitarians is due in great measure to the late Mr. John Paget, who had married a Transylvanian baroness, settled down here. He laid a foundation to the Kolozsvár college out of which the best student of the English langnage gets every year 100 florins, and the second one 50 firs, and the third one 25 florins prize.
