The Third Annual Paprikás Sunday of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Allen, Paik, Michigan, on May 29, 1983 was an overwhelming success. This year again Bill Sarkett, Jesse Pasternak and Helen Hermann co-chairpersons are to be commended for organizing a very unique event, which was greatly appreciated by the people of the Detroit-metropolitan area. The highlight of the Paprikás Sunday, this year was a traditional Hungarian village wedding, when the whole scene was re-enacted. The bride was Beth Polakowski, the groom Leslie Török, parents of the bride were Amy Kulchar and Julius Szabó, parents of the groom Betty Morro and Frank Kender. Best man Alex Koroknay. Master of ceremonies Sándor Orosz, from Windsor, Canada. The Folk Dance Group of the church under the able leadership of Vilma and Julius Szabó performed the traditional “pillow dance” and the “flower dance”, the ushers presented the “groom dance”, which all culminated in the “bridal dance.” The church auditorium was transformed into a “Village in the Old Country”; the cameras were clicking away as parents, relatives and guests took many pictures for posterity. The Dorcas Guild prepared the delicious chicken paprikás dinner, with stuffed cabbage and the trimmings, including famous Hungarian pastries, for which our women are noted. The Golden Circle Club members and others assisted with the serving, decorations, and the many little details, that contributed to the success of the day. The 450 guests attending all commented that the colorful event was the most popular venture of the church this year. During dinner and all evening music was furnished by the Tokay orchestra.
