The Trattsy/vtuuati Quarterly TRANSYLVANIA is part of the Carpathian Basin, which is a compact geographical, economical and cultural unit, inhabited by Hungarians since 895 A.D. After World War I, the Eastern part of Hungary, including Transylvania, the Banat, and part of the Great Hungarian Plain was annexed by Rumania, without the consent of the native population. Thus the thousand year old Hungarian kingdom, and the long established economical, political and cultural unit of the Carpathian Basin was broken up, causing disruption, oppression, and economic hardship. The Hungarian population of Transylvania was thrown into minority status under foreign occupation, and was forced to endure extreme discrimination and injustice. During the last sixty years of Rumanian occupation more than one million Hungarians were killed, deported or forced under pressure to leave their homeland. Today, still close to three million strong, the native Hungarians of Transylvania are subjected to large-scale cultural genocide under the barbaric dictatorship of Ceausescu’s communist regime. WE APPEAL TO THE CONSCIENCE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE: IN THE NAME OF GOD, SAVE THE TRANSYLVANIAN HUNGARIANS! Dedicated to the oppressed peoples of Transylvania, to their right to self-determination, self-administration, and the free development of their cultural heritage. NO. 16 — JULY, 1983 Published by the U.S. Branches of the Transylvanian World Federation and Affiliated Organizations. Editors: A. Wass de Czege and István Zolcsák Assistant Editor: Mrs. Anne Fay Atzél Washington Representative: Mrs. Ilona Boissenin Editorial Office: American Hungarian Literary Guild Rt. 1, Box 59 — Astor, Florida 32002 Ceausescu Committed Himself Yo Nazi-Type Terror Renouncing Marxist Socialism as “Impractical in regard to our national interest” the Rumanian dictator declared in his speech on May 10,1983, heard by millions of people: “Contrary to the principles of Marxist socialism, glorious achievements of our Rumanian socialism are solely for the benefit of our own Rumanian brothers and sisters, and in no way for those damned BOZGOJs (foreigners) who lurk in the dark corners of our beloved country! Tell them, wherever you happen to encounter one of those Hungarian dogs, that they have no place under the Rumanian sky! They can be nothing more in our land but our slaves! Unless they change their names and prove themselves good Rumanians, not even their children’s children will ever be more than lowly beasts of burden which carry the rocks for the pyramids of our glorious Rumanian future!” May the 10th is the day when the Rumanian government celebrates the annexation of Transylvania. Speeches delivered that day were always heavily spiced with chauvinistic slogans, like that of Senator Maccavei in Gherla (Szamosújvár) on May 10, 1940, urging the audience to “go out there and stomp every Hungarian baby out of their mother’s belly for the good of our beloved nation!” Thereby causing the “Füzes massacre” on the evening of the same day when 18 Hungarians, mostly women and children, were killed by a Rumanian mob four miles from the city. This time, however. Rumania’s dictator Ceausescu openly admitted in his chauvinistic outburst what We have kept saying for years: his regime is nothing more than an ultra-barbaric immitation of Hitler’s doctrine, recognizing only the MASTERRACE as the legal citizenry of the country, while everybody else, in this case the Hungarians of Transylvania, are regarded as slaves, completely at the mercy of their masters.
