Bethlen Cultural Program A Bethlen Otthon Kulturális Központja. Szeretjük az Öregeket. Szeretjük az Öregeket. Ök azok akiken keresztül megismerjük fajtánkat, kultúránkat. Ok azok akik önfeláldozó szeretettel nevelik fel gyermekeiket. Sokan megöregedve egyedül élnek, még azok is kiknek gyermekeik vannak. Mind többen vannak, egyre többen jelentkeznek.-De ez nem probléma...Mi szeretettel várjuk Őket. Igen, már megjött a szép tavasz, az újjászületés és ezzel együtt az anyák napja. (Pattantyús Magda: Anyák Napjára) Mama, anya, édesanyám Anyukám; Ennél szebb szó a magyar szótárban Nincs talán. Ma - ma, Ma - ma, ezt a szót tanította meg először anyánk Mikor mondtuk, örömtől csillogó Szemmel nézett ránk. Ez a szó, melyet halálunkig nem feledünk. Ez a szó, melyet minden évben... Hálával, szeretettel ünnepelünk. Minden anyának és apának kívánunk BOLDOG ANYÁK/APÁK NAPJÁT! A commemorative program for the 158th anniversary of the 1848 Hungarian War of Independence was held Wednesday, March 15, in the Linden Room of Bethlen Home. The program featured music by residents, prayers and poems. A special thank you to our main speaker, Mr. Endre Csornán of the William Penn Association. Mr. Csoman's inspirational words were well-received by everyone in attendance. A delicious dinner of stuffed cabbage and kolbász followed the program. We thank everyone for coming. The commemorative program was also the first day of a very special exhibit at Bethlen Home. We were proud to display an art exhibit featuring the works of the talented Mr. Csaba Kur, a resident of Bethlen Home. Mr. Kur received mention in the Congressional Record in 1989 for his sculpture of Lajos Kossuth, located in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Kossuth is known as the father of Hungarian democracy. The exhibit included charcoal, as well as oils and watercolor, and ran from March 15th through the 31st. We are excited to announce that a much larger exhibit featuring Mr. Kur's works will be exhibited during the month of October 2006. Among others, this exhibit will highlight works pertaining to the 1956 Soviet-controlled era of Hungary and its aftermath. October 2006 is the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution against the Soviets. At the end of April we welcomed the Bethlen Board of Directors. We also have a special display at the entrance of Bethlen Home: "The Way We Were", featuring old photos of the original orphanage, the old folks home, here on the hill and down in town. The exhibit will be in the lobby of Bethlen Home until the end of May. Please stop by to peruse these special pictures and reminisce. In closing, Edith and I at the Cultural/Heritage Center would like to say a fond farewell to our good friend and resident Olga Szabo. Olga passed away recently and she will be sorely missed. She was a great supporter of the cultural program, always full of ideas! She loved everything Hungarian and was very proud of her heritage.
