Activity Highlights VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR GIFT SHOP Bethlen Home’s Gift Shop is in need of Volunteers to help fill a few time slots throughout the week. The Gift Shop has been such a great success that we would like to have the shop open a few evenings starting in the fall. Our current shop hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The time slots we are looking to fill are Saturday mornings 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Wednesdays 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. Sundays 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesdays 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Those wanting to volunteer will be assigned to a time slot that will fit their schedule. The volunteer will then be responsible for reporting each week to the Gift Shop on their assigned time slot. Anyone interested should contact Sherry Humbertson at 724-238-1424 during business hours or stop by the Activity Office. BETHLEN HOME’S ANNUAL HALLOWEEN WALK During the last several years our residents have enjoyed the visits of our employees’ children and grandchildren coming in costume to collect their Halloween treats. Families are encouraged to have their loved one participate in the event. Each resident must supply their own treat to be distributed. Residents or their families should notify the Activity Department by stopping by or calling 724-238-6711 if their loved one is going to participate with a treat. 2005 Health and Education Expo Sponsored by the Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging, Westmoreland Human Opportunities, the Westmoreland County Health and Welfare Council, Westmoreland Casemanagement and Supports, Inc., and the Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners OCTOBER 26, 2005 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Four Points Sheraton, Greensburg Free Health Screenings and Information, adaptive equipment displays, light refreshments, free parking, and live radio broadcast by 1480 WCNS. CANNING TIME I kneel on warm ground by loaded rows Of small green peas that my garden grows, Feeling a kinship with summer and God Each time I pick a ripe, green pod. In my kitchen, I hull away The covering from my food bouquet, Exposing small jewels of sparkling hue, Bits of warm sunshine and parts of dew] That shimmer like jade in a showcase. Canning green peas is not commonplace But something like conquering Venus or Mars, When I store the summer away in clear jars. When buying your treats, please keep in mind the children are ages 1 year to 10 years old. Families wanting to drop off their treats for their loved one may do so at the Activity Office. The treats will then be given to their resident the day of the Halloween Walk for them to distribute. SEPTEMBER MORNING Now dance the shadows Between the rows of corn; Rustling leaves whisper Across the faded lawn; Yesterday butterflies Flew in careless flight, And fireflies filled the meadow With scintillating light. First frost comes tonight, And stars wink winter warning; Yet warm is the kiss Of Autumn’s golden morning. f\0,
