(Äcttottji JHtgljUgljtsí BETHLEN HOME SPRING CRAFT SHOW WEARIN’ OF THE GREEN Residents and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite shade of green on St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th. Below are several Irish poems that may bring back some memories if you’ve ever made a trip to Ireland. THE ISLE OF EMERALD by Lorice Fiani Mulhern There is an isle of the greenest green glistening emerald, really; Plains and fields and rolling hills that form the land of Eire. O many a castle you will find many a fisherman’s haven, Upon the inlets and the bays that form the coast of Ireland. This is the isle of Shannon, of Dublin and Killarney; Of rivers and lakes and counties fair, and geniuses like Shaw and O’Casey. O this is the isle of the leprechaun, the shamrock and the Blarney Stone, Where thatched-roofed cottages grace the farms of Ireland’s charming countryside. Here you’ll find a ready wit, a handshake and a smile, For the friendliest people anywhere live on the Emerald Isle. UNTITLED When Erin first rose from the dark swelling flood, God blessed the green island, He saw it was good. The Emerald of Europe, it sparkled and shone In the ring of this world, the most precious stone. A LIFTED TRUMPET SOUNDS Across the ramparts of eternity A lifted trumpet sounds this Easter hour, To reassure all eager listening hearts That truly the Christ is risen, that no power Could have stayed the rock that sealed his sepulcher; Could have stilled the voice that sounds upontheair; Joining the true bright trumpet notes until They can be heard to the world’s far everywhere. “I am the resurrection and the life, He that believeth in me ... shall never die. Because I live ye shall live also," the voice and the silver trumpet notes sound down the sky! A duet from the far eternal shore ... A blessed Christ, we shout our praise to thee for this holy day, and for thy continuing voice With its glorious promise of immortality.
