SUMMER ISSUE • JUNE • JULY • AUGUST, 1991 P.O. Box 657, Ligonier, PA 15658-0657 ScttWtp JjigfjIigJjts Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday Resident, Elioda Mack will be celebrating her 100th birthday with her family on the 4th of July. Elioda was born and raised in Robinson, Pennsylvania. She came from a family of seven children, three brothers and four sisters. Her father served in the Civil War. After the war he then ran the local sawmill and worked on road construction. When Elioda met her sweetheart, Vincent Mack, they soon married and moved locally to New Florence, Pennsylvania where they would soon start their own family of two sons, James and George. Throughout her life she has always been very active with her church, Germany United Methodist. There you could find Elioda being the church secretary and playing the piano. This was an essential part of her life for over 60 years. She is also known as our "little firecracker" here at the Bethlen Home due to her outgoing, friendly, pleasant and. cooperative disposition. Some of Elloda's favorite things are fresh flowers, sweets, and we even catch her blowing kisses to good looking men such as our administrator and produce man from time to time. The staff of Bethlen Home wishes you a very special and happy celebration on this 4th of July with your family and grandchildren. We wish you many more birthdays and we're glad you're celebrating them with us. Pictured Center Resident Elioda Mack with (L to R) Alice & James Mack & George & Jane Mack We often forget how great our freedoms are here in the United States compared to other countries. This Fourth of July let us be "Thankful" for what the good Lord blessed us with. Our Four Freedoms The first is freedom of speech and expression everywhere in the world. Second, is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way everywhere in the world. Third, is freedom from wand, which into world terms, means economic understanding which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear, which means world wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor throughout the world. (Spoken to Congress by Franklin D. Roosevelt.) Summer Outings One of the most favored things during the summer for both volunteers and residents are the outings. This summer you will be able to look forward to trips to the Gateway Clipper, Mountain Playhouse, Miniature Horse farm and picnics at local parks, to name a few. Lists will be posted for each outing. Residents interested in signing up should do so right away when the announcement is posted, due to it being first come first serve. Details of cost, etc. will also be given at that time. Anyone having any questions can contact Sherry or Ann.
