There were a variety of exhibitors for the benefit of the senior citizens. Exhibitors for healthcare, fitness and wellness and the YMCA showed what is offered for the seniors. There were many displaying their items and information to make lives better. Joe and I were honored for working for Rep. Marshall. We met a lot of people and some of the exhibitors gave gifts to the participants. We had a nice lunch with the Representative afterwards. Dorothy Hogue and Peggy Fabri Family Fun Night Benefit—Laurie Orto Thursday, September 9, 2010 HRFA Branch 151 participated in NTAF Mid-Atlantic Fleart Transplant Fund to honor Laurie Orto Laurie Orto is a young mother in need of a heart transplant. This fundraiser provided money for Laurie Orto for her heart transplant. During the evening, people rallied together to help this family. We charged a $5 fee per family. We had many additional donations for pizza, Italian sausage sandwiches, beverages, a bake sale, live music, face-painting, balloon making, a Chinese auction, a juggler, and a Noah’s Ark animal workshop. We had one basket for a silent auction which had a signed football by Troy Polamalu. That basket was won by Greg Best for $700. My helpers were Janey Watts, Jen Henderson and Verionia Oliver. We all worked well together and rejoiced to see the final total towards Laurie Orto’s transplant which was $3,221.28. Earlier this year, on September 18, we held a spaghetti dinner for Laurie. The menu consisted of salad, spaghetti with meat balls, beverages and pieces of cake. I worked preparing the baked goods with many varieties of pastries. We had cakes, pies, cookies, muffins, jellies, apple butter, fudge and brownies. It was a successful evening with great fellowship. The total that was raised that night was $1,100.
