In the past school year, I have been exposed to very fulfilling experiences while living on the Penn State Beaver campus. This past year, I had the pleasure of being an RA in the residence hall on

campus. At first, it was very strange and I didn’t know how to interact with so many different personalities on my floor, let alone that whole building. From the experiences in the residence hall, I learned a lot about myself. I have learned to be patient with people, to be level-headed in an emergency, how not to be so irritated by people, and how to create a community on the floor with such a diverse group of people and personalities. Also, I was the VP of the Alpha Phi Omega petitioning group that is on the Penn State Beaver campus. To give you some background of Alpha Phi Omega, APO is based on scouting, and its three principles are friendship, leadership and service. As Vice President, I was given the role of helping the President in any way I could. For example, 1 planned fellowships, events, set up booths, etc., but the greatest reward that I got for all of this was that I was helping people understand that they could change the world. Az Extremely Hungary nevű 2009-es évi fesztivál keretében a New York-i Carnegie Hall-ban vendégszerepeit Palya Beáta és kiváló zenészei is.

Repertoárja magában foglal szefardik dallamoktól kezdve, balkáni-, cigány- valamint magyar népzenei elemeket. Zenei körutazása nyomán a világzene kategóriába sorolható.

A zenei változatosság mellett közönségének rendkívül energikus élményben volt része, ami sokban segítette a műfaj befogadását azoknak, akik nem beszélik a magyar nyelvet vagy nem jártasak a világzene műfajában.

Előadói képessége és spontán humora magasan kiemeli Beát a legtöbb, hasonló műfajban éneklő előadótól. Játékossága zenészeivel páratlan művészi intimitásba nyújt betekintést. A közönséghez, humorhoz, zenéhez való viszonyáról kérdeztük.

A közönséged nyilván vegyes volt. A magyar nézők mellett elég sok amerikai is megjelent. Mennyiben változtatott ez a koncerted hangulatán egy otthoni fellépéshez képest? Elégedett voltál a visszajelzésükkel?

Nem változtatott. A zene és a zene által születő híd ugyanaz mindenhol. Nagyon élveztem a koncertet, és a visszajelzés is örömmel töltött el. Jól átgondolt műsorral

us. Some of don’t know that the power is inside of us, and others just simply ignore it. This year, I believe that I finally found that power inside of me, and I’m going to use that power to help others and to make this world a better, more unified world through servicing others and building friendships with people.

My major is a LAS degree, which is Letters, Arts, and Sciences. In this degree program, one can take courses from different disciplines and learn how the other courses interrelate to fit one’s educational pursuit. A person can even create his own major. My major’s theme is Behavioral Analysis and Juvenile Delinquency. With this degree, I intend to do one of two things; either work as a caseworker in the school district or do research. I hope that either direction that I choose to go, I will be helping people in some way.

érkeztem, és azt is jól átgondoltam, hogy mi az a két mondat, amit egy-egy dal előtt elmondok. Mindenek előtt arról a zenei nyelvről gondolkodtam sokat, amit én használok, és most egy ilyen reprezentáns, magyar évados koncerten kerül az amerikai közönség elé, akik sok cigány és magyar zenei klisét ismernek. Sokat gyakoroltam a hangokat, a dalokat. Hiszen az én zenei nyelvemben ugyanúgy ott van az archaikus magyar népzene, mint a bolgár dalok, vagy az erdélyi cigány hallgatók és pergetők hatása, a szefárd és a keleti zenék, más improvizatív zenék hatása. És mindez párosul egy dalírói hagyománnyal, ami követek: kiírom magamból, ami bennem van. S mint anyának a két gyereke: a szöveg és a zene ugyanolyan fontos. Csak számomra izgalmas, értékes zenei hangokkal - és a magam írta szavakkal - tudom elmondani, hogy mi is van épp velem.

Több országban szerepeltél már, hol volt a leghálásabb a közönséged?

Mindenhonnan nagyon jó élményekkel térek haza. Nem is annyira az országtól,
