STUDENT AID A___________ __________ __________________________________________________________________________ I ATTILA BAKK-Member of Branch 259 As a student at the University of Windsor, I am honored to be a member of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. It gives me great pleasure to help out and volunteer at our local Hungarian cultural center. Another helping hand is always greatly appreciated with the food sales or the Christmas play being put on by young Hungarian children. With the support of my family, I am presently pursuing an education in computer science. Upon graduation, I wish to become a software engineer. Finally, I would like to thank the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for granting me this scholarship. Attila was recommended by former Branch Manager Margaret H. Saltzer JULIANNA CSERVENAK- Member of Branch 62 I graduated from Griffith Senior High School as class president, cross country captain, member of National Honor Society, and a leader of both drama and bowling club. My parents are Terry and György Cservenak. I have two older brothers, Tom and Michael. I reside in northwest Indiana where I commute to school. Presently, I am an undergraduate student of Purdue University Calumet with two terms left until my expected graduation. I will finish school with a baccalaureate of liberal science with a focus on hospitality and tourism management. In my junior year, my studies are devoted to industrial relations, organizational management, global tourism, culinary techniques, and marketing in the hospitality industry. This year, I have been accredited by the state of Indiana with a ServSafe Manager Certification. I am a student member of the Club Managers Association of America, American Hotel & Lodging Association, and the Purdue University Marketing Association. I am a scholarship recipient from the Chicago Magyar Club and the Legacy Foundation for the past three years. Outside of school, I work full time and participate all year round in intramural tennis and dodge ball. My favorite hobbies are reading, playing tennis and working out. Currently, it is my goal to finish my education with exemplary grades and to become proficient in managerial skills. I have participated in volunteering with past summer Hungarian clubs picnics, and I have attended the annual Magyar Ball for the past five years. Julianna was recommended by Branch Manager Maria Kovács REBECCA DEMETER - Member of Branch 100 I am currently the secretary for Branch 100. Last year, the branch organized one of the best events for Bojté Csaba, who is a founder of the Transylvanian orphanage. Along with the president of the branch, I have been gathering a suitcase filled with gifts and toys for the orphans back home in Romania. During the summer, I volunteered at my city’s library program called Adopt-a-Shelf. My duties were to put books on the shelf in order to make sure they were nicely in a row. I currently am the Movie Monitor also at the public library. I make sure everything goes well during the presentation of the films shown at night. Also, I volunteered at the Moorings, a home for senior citizens. I played bingo with the elders for an afternoon. I currently volunteer at my church’s children’s ministry where I take care of children while their parents attend church. Rebecca was recommended by Director András Demeter ELIZABETH DEPETRILLO - Member of Branch BOO Currently an undergraduate at the University of Binghamton, I find it a very exciting, productive and challenging experience. Among the many academic options and possibilities, I have decided to complete a degree in accounting, with a concentration in finance. Ultimately, I would love to pursue a career in forensic accounting. This past summer I completed a three-day externship with a firm in New York, and plan to return for an internship this summer. The internship will provide me with more hands-on experience to further develop my career plans as well as 20 SUMMER 2009
