STUDENT AID confirm that accounting is indeed the field I would like to continue pursuing an advanced career in. I look forward to the future with excitement and enthusiasm, eager to take on the rest of my academic experience at Binghamton. I appreciate this opportunity that the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America has provided and will put the Federations generous gift towards my studies with gratitude. Elizabeth was recommended by Rev. Imre A Bertalan, Executive Director, Bethlen Communities ADAM EDWARD SEDLAK - Member of Branch 151 I am a junior History Major at Kent State University with the intention of graduating in the year 2010. The classes that I am taking at Kent State University right now are almost entirely history-oriented, with the exception of an Elementary American Sign Language Course that I took last semester. Through this course, I learned the basics of American Sign Language and communicate in sign at a medium to fast-paced level. This will undoubtedly be a valuable attribute to have when I am entering the ever-shrinking job market in the next decade. At Kent State University, I have learned a lot about myself. Not only have I discovered that I require five meals and ten hours of sleep a day, I also now know that I have a previously unknown interest in African- American culture. I have taken three Pan-African Studies courses at the University, received high marks, and am considering adding Pan- African Studies as my minor. This is something that perhaps if I would have never left Beaver County I would have not known. As for what I would like to do upon completing my major, I am very keen on attending graduate school in an effort to one day teach the very subjects that I am learning now. I do not know if this means returning to Kent State University and taking part in their Graduate Studies Program (if they could find it in their hearts to accept me) or looking to attend a school closer to home. Either way, this scholarship from Hungarian Reformed Federation of America is a tremendous help. Adam was recommended by Director Joseph Fabri FORMER STUDENT AID RECIPIENT, WHO DONATED TO THE HRFA STUDENT AID ACCOUNT: Both of my parents are from Hungary. My father, Mihály Csemak, was a participant in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 entering this country as a refugee. My mother, Anna Kiss, immigrated here in 1975. Soon after his arrival to the United States, my father began working as a laborer for the railroad. Through his hard work and willingness to learn, he obtained better carriers in the railroad industry. My older brother was born in 1976, and I was bom in 1984. In 1988, my father passed away, making my mother the sole provider for our family, as the rest of the family still remains in Hungary today. After my father passed away, my mother went to college receiving her postbaccalaureate degrees in accounting and computer programming. In order to raise her family, my mother had to sacrifice higher paying careers. Currently, she works as a financial planner at a local investment company. I grew up in Hobart, Indiana and participated in various sports where swimming became my favorite. I swam all four years at Hobart High School becoming captain of the team my senior year. As one could imagine, the summer Olympics were very exciting for me. László Cseh, of the Hungarian swim team, won three silver medals. Additionally, I was tom between the United States and Hungary in the Men’s Water Polo final match, but was happy to see Hungary win their third gold medal in a row. In 2002,1 graduated from Hobart High School and attended full time studies at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana while working part time as a Bank Teller/Clerk at H.F.S. Bank. In 2006, I graduated “With Distinction” with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology; in 2007, I married my high school sweetheart, BreAnne Bronisz, and began working for Praxair in East Chicago, Indiana as an Electrical/ Instrumentation technician. My education has offered me the opportunity to obtain an excellent career I enjoy doing everyday. My higher education would not have been possible without the hard work and sacrifices of my parents or the support from the HRFA Student Aid Fund. It is vital that there are organizations to assist people who are willing to work hard and leam. In addition, it is imperative that we support the HRFA. Without our support, this organization can not aid the people who want to better themselves. It is in our best interest to help each other, especially in the current economic times. Having been to Hungary numerous times throughout of my life, I am very proud of my heritage. Hungary is a beautiful, cultural country, and I anticipate visiting throughout my life. I will never forget where we are from and I will always try to lend a helping hand to my fellow Hungarians. FRATERNITY - TESTVÉRISÉG 21
