Peg Fabri, Beaver Falls area, Branch 151, being the Area Fraternal Coordinator, called all the branches to inform them of the tragedy and asked them to bring anything from food, household items, clothing, and gifts of money to the church. Joe Fabri, Director of HRFA, suggested calling the Home Office to report the tragedy, and HRFA responded immediately. After a discussion, it was decided that the clothes originally collected for the Appalachia project be transferred from the Bethlen Home to the fire victims. Joe Fabri contacted Rev. Bertalan and offered to help with the loading, and Joe Kerékgyártó and Alex Bodnar drove the truck. HRFA provided the finances to transport the clothing. Continued from Page 16 Rev. Ilona Komjáthy & Joe Fabri On Sunday, March 4th Rev. Komjáthy had a special service at the First Hungarian Reformed Church to recognize all those who participated in helping the fire victims. Mark Eyermen, who was representing the Red Cross, distributed Giant Eagle gift cards among the families. HRFA’s donation of $1,200 was also given to the victims. Thanks to all who helped in this time of need. It is an inspiration to see love in action when the need calls. James Dobson, a child psychologist from the radio program “Focus on the Family” had a rally in Pittsburgh, PA at the Mellon Arena in March. Joe and played a part in helping Dr. Dobson. We left early in the day to train for the night ralley. There were speakers as well as Dr. James Dobson to encourage the families to keep going on, train and teach directions for our children in education, spiritual growth, and discipline in their daily lives. Over 13,000 came to the rally, and many left with a lifted spirit and encouraged to continue on as parents and community to help our young in healthy lives. Joe and 1 gave out books during the rally which were some of the books authored by Dr. James Dobson. The books were given out at no charge to those who were there seeking guidance. Joe and I were blessed to see this man in action and desire to help those who seek to learn the parenting skills. We are grateful for men like him, may the Lord continue to use him. Peggy Fabri, Branch Manager & Area Fraternal Coordinator Tel: (724) 843-6162 M - DA A devastating fire in the community of Hazelwood in the city of Pittsburgh consumed an entire block of houses. Ten families lost everything. One man was hospitalized. The American Red Cross and relatives were able to relocate these families. The First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh is but a few blocks from the site. Cindy Toth, the Church’s Community Liaison made contacts, used the Church’s Sunday Bulletin and the outdoor sign board to display a phone number for more information. The Calvin Hall soon became a collection point for clothing, appliances, non-perishable food, and a list of large goods and their locations. With monetary donations food gift cards were purchased. With Director Joseph Fabri’s help, Alex Bodnar and John Kerékgyártó rented a “U-Haul”, motored to Ligonier and returned with the clothes collection stored at the Bethlen Cultural Center. The appeal was so successful that even the community needy were able to take advantage of it. The residue was then distributed to the Salvation Army, Goodwill and the Allegheny Center Alliance Church. 18 Fraternity - Testvériség / Summer 2007
