Page 20 Fraternity- Testvériség Branch 151 — Beaver Falls, PA Project location: Irwin, PA By the end of the winter months, the neighborhood and the park are in need of some serious clean-up. With neighborhood children and some adults, the day began with a hearty breakfast at project manager Renee Maldonado’s place at 8 am. To the delight of the children, delicious pancakes with natural maple syrup were served, and eggs for the adults. Then the day began by serving the elderly in the area by cleaning up their yards, picking up the dead branches from the trees from the winter months, as well as cleaning and planting some flowers for their enjoyment. There is a park in the area which the group also took time to clean from debris, as well as some of the picnic tables were restored to be used for summer picnics. The younger members of the group picked up the garbage in the park. We stopped to have lunch at noon, with sandwiches made ahead of time and beverages; the meal restored our energy until early afternoon. We had a fun time enjoying each other’s company during the process of working! Project location: Springdale, PA — Hungarian Reformed Church Our day began at 8:30 am with breakfast at McDonald’s in Beaver Falls where Joe Fabri met wrestlers Dave Moore, Krasimir Kairacher and Justin Thomas. The rest of the team including Reverend Posta, and the group from the William Penn Association led by Endre Csornán gathered at Springdale Church. Working together is always a lot of fun, especially with the wrestlers who are always full of energy and excited to get started on the project. The day began with cleaning up debris. We had 28 bags by the time we finished. We trimmed shrubs, cutting wherever needed. The rain all day wasn’t much help, but we strenuously continued our work. Actually, we were happy when we could begin our project inside the church. We started with cleaning windows, running the sweeper and dusting, so the church will be ready when the spring season comes. Our lunch time was a real treat with pizza and beverages as refreshments. We completed our work at 1:30 pm with the sense that we found out more about each other and developed a closer relationship than what we had when we started. With this spiritually uplifted feeling, we said goodbye to each other and we look forward to conducting the same project next year. It is a good feeling to be helpful! Project location: Mars, PA — Mars Alliance Church This project was held from 8 am to 1 pm, cleaning and planting flowers. We also had a used book sale that was a much longer project. After breakfast that included donuts and coffee, a group of ten under the leadership of Julie DeSantes and Jodi Fleishman started with the outside clean-up and continued with planting flowers near the Sunday School rooms so the lovely flora could be seen during the classes that are held every Sunday. The colorful plant life cheers up everybody after the long winter months. During the gardening project, a book sale was going on as well. It took us a few days to prepare for it, since we had to set up the tables and price the used books. The literature came from the church library that they wanted to eliminate. The money raised from the sale was to replace the old books. It turned out to be a quite successful project. For lunch we had pizza and refreshments. But the biggest benefit to all of us was getting to know each other better, and we enjoyed it very much. Our pastors were very grateful.
