Page 10 Fraternity- Testvériség gain weight, no part of your body feels the pain of increased years more than your feet. You need to take good care of them—so wearing supportive shoes and getting an occasional pedicure are necessities, not luxuries. 8. Resign yourself to the feminization of fraternal activities. It’s human nature that invariably, women will dominate the kitchen, help those less fortunate, and care for the young and old more than men. As we aging females grow increasingly more outspoken, self-assertive, confident, and possessive of our turf, we find that often those are the very qualities that attribute to the success of our fraternal activities. 9. Be proud of being a fraternal activist and mentor a newcomer. Remember that you affect others’ lives. Become tolerant of criticism, and don't be afraid to try something Deneice Oroszvary instructing and . „ mentoring youth new. At 62 years ot age, one of our fraternal activists, Teri Pflum, returned to college to learn sign language to better serve those members with acute hearing loss. Then, take a young woman in the organization under your wing. Deneice Oroszvary advises her mentorees to use the skills they already posess and enjoy, like sewing or speaking or working with youth, to help her branch’s fraternal activities become more successful. She advises, “In mentoring these young members, you will see yourself as you were when you began your fraternal life—idealistic, happy, optimistic, and full of the belief that you make a difference. You will realize that passing the baton to the new generation is part of life. You will appreciate the strength, energy, and confidence of these young people, and you will learn from them just as I learned from raising six children of my own. The qualities of today’s young fraternal members will lift your spirits and give you hope that these organizations will stay strong.” 10. Never, ever underestimate the power of cooking well. At a fraternal meeting I recently attended in Gary, Ind., the minister gave the invocation, the fraternal president and chairman of the board spoke, the dancers performed, the scholarships were awarded, the raffle was held, and the installation of branch officers proceeded on schedule, but finally, a male’s voice boomed from the back of the room, “Enough! Let’s eat!” Just then, as though on cue, the kitchen doors swung open and there, to a standing ovation, stood Branch Manager Maria Kovács, clad in her white apron and carrying a tray piled with Rakott Krumpli and chicken drumsticks— she and her food stole the show! Women like Maria know that lots of tasty food served on time is the key to the success of all fraternal functions, so she shares these two favorites with you: Chicken Drumsticks Gardener Style 6 to 8 chicken drumsticks 2 tablespoons oil 4 small kohlrabi 1 small cauliflower fresh green parsley 3 to 4 carrots I lb. green peas 1 cube chicken bouillon Wash drumsticks and pat dry with paper towel.
