Page 20 Fraternity- Testvériség complete a B.A. in Literature and a second in Gender Studies. At Coe, I work at the library as a circulation clerk. I also have a job in the Coe Writing Center where 1 assist students and anyone else who comes into the Writing Center with their writing. During May Term, I was chosen for a Coe Writing Center trip to China and Inner Mongolia where we helped Chinese students learning English with their writing. I am a member of Coe's Honors Program, and I am looking into different programs which could help me go abroad for one year because 1 believe diverse perspectives are important to learning. I would like to thank the HRFA for this scholarship because it will make it that much easier for me to pursue all of my academic goals.” László Oroszvary, member of Branch 20: “First, 1 would like to say a thank you for this scholarship. Since I currently have three sisters also attending college, it will provide some much needed help to me for paying for my third year at Rutgers. Starting last year, I had to quit the Rutgers Crew team to free up time for a part- time job. Though the income has helped, it can’t come anywhere near to paying for the full cost of school, especially with the recent budget cuts from the state. Without worrying as much about paying off college debts after school, this scholarship will help me give my full effort to my studies and student activities. One such experience has been studying Chinese and all the things that it has brought me. Most notably, this past summer, I had applied for and received a scholarship from the Taiwanese government to study Chinese in Taipei. At first, it was a little disorienting to travel alone, literally across the world, to a country with a totally foreign language and culture. Somehow, my year of Chinese got me by. By the end of the semester, my Chinese had improved a lot, especially in conversation. In many other ways too, it was a very enriching experience learning the language in an immersive environment for three months. I wish I could have stayed longer. However, as it was, 1 only had two days preparation at home before moving back into Rutgers for the new semester. Getting back, 1 had very much to do as this year I am founding a new Student Organization, the Rutgers University Karaoke Club. I’m lacking the amount of karaoke experience one might expect in a Karaoke Club president, but I liked it a lot the few times I’ve tried it, and 1 saw that others liked it even more. At the fall semester’s Involvement Fair to promote groups to new students, we received 177 sign-ups for our club’s e-mail list, not including ourselves. We didn’t even give any promotional items or food away like most of the other organizations. Yet, most of those signing up were very enthusiastic about it, wondering why there wasn’t a karaoke club before this and why they hadn’t thought of it themselves. We will be having our first meeting by the end of the month. 1 have found university life very rewarding in many aspects. In addition to these goals, I am pursuing a major in History, going on to study Education in graduate school for teaching at the high school or middle school level. Thank you once again for helping support me in all that I want to accomplish.” Leslie S. Ujj, member of Branch 20: “Thank you HRFA for this Student Aid program. I very much appreciate any help in paying for my college education. I will be entering my sophomore year at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD, where I will continue to study the liberal arts in a classical setting. My education at St. John’s will prepare me to advance in any field I wish to. I am a member of the Christian fellowship on campus and am also a member of the crew team. At the moment, I am considering a career in education and hope to spend next year in a foreign country teaching English. I have spent my last two summers working at an inner-city church camp and before that during high school, I volunteered at the American Red Cross, teaching young children the fundamentals of swimming. I love working with kids. My connection to the Federation comes through my church, the Hungarian Reformed Church of Trenton, NJ, and the HRC youth camp, which is also sponsored by the Federation. I thank my church and youth group for being a supportive and loving environment.” (Krista, Tamara, László and Leslie were recommended by Branch 20 Manager, Deneice Oroszvary)
