FRATERNITY Page 3 From the President/CEO’s Office SUMMER MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Summer is usually a quiet time in many organizations, but not at the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Paragraph 31 of our Bylaws states: “The Board of Directors shall have a minimum of two (2) regular meetings yearly.” In the past few years, an additional meeting of the Board of Directors has been held during the summer, in conjunction with the Ligonier Fraternal Days. Such a meeting was again called by the Executive Committee for Thursday and Friday, July 17th and 18th, in Ligonier. The agenda for this meeting was prepared by the Executive Committee and contained a great deal of informational material regarding activities that the Federation has become involved in since the Spring Board meeting. A round-table discussion on the subject of sales and marketing issues was also planned. On the informational level, the Executive Committee first dealt with last year’s financial audit, which was conducted by an independent auditing firm hired by the organization. I also brought the members of the Board up to date concerning the filing for a new insurance license in the state of Florida as was requested at the Spring Board meeting. It is our hope that with a growing Hungarian population in the Sunshine State, we will be able to achieve great success. Another positive factor is the fact that a few of our agents spend a great deal of time in Florida during the winter season. Also, in accordance with the wishes of the Board to pursue possibilities for selling our annuity product in the state of New York, I indicated that, with the assistance of the actuaries, a joint effort has been made regarding this project. The Executive Committee will report on both of these issues at the Fall Board meeting. I also informed the Board of the Executive Committee’s decision to withdraw our license from West Virginia. Due to the regulatory requirements and special claim examination fees assessed against all insurance companies doing business in that state, and not seeing a possible return for any of these investments in the future, withdrawing our license at this time would be a wise decision. The Rev. Leslie E. Martin, Vice Chair, reported on the progress of the Faith Based Initiative. He hopes to secure federal grants for present and future ventures. He had been given approval to pursue this avenue by the Board at the Spring meeting. He was once again given a vote of confidence to continue with this project. I reported on the Area Business Managers and Area Fraternal Coordinators. In accordance with the decision at the Spring Board meeting to pursue continued business for the Federation, the following individuals have signed a contract to work as Area Business Managers to date: Mr. Joseph Kovács, Chicago, Indiana and Great Lakes area; Mr. Joseph Fabri, Western Pennsylvania; Mrs. Clara Csikesz, East of Pittsburgh, Ligonier area; and Mr. Michael Pauli, Jr., New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. As per their contracts, these Area Business Managers have been assigned the following duties and responsibilities: 1. To promote the business and assist in the promotion of the fraternal interests of the Federation in the area described as their territory. 2. To find and train new agents, and exercise supervision and control over the branch managers and agents. 3. To secure the quality and quantity of the new business for the Federation. 4. To ensure prompt forwarding of applications for insurance policies between the branch managers and agents under their care and the Home Office. 5. To ensure delivery of insurance policies promptly when they are transmitted to them by the Federation for delivery to insured members either personally or through branch managers and agents under their care. 6. To ensure that every reasonable effort is made to maintain, in force, all insurance policies of the Federation in their territory. 7. To ensure that every reasonable effort is made to collect past due premiums and/or any amounts payable to the Federation. 8. To keep all records required by the Federation and submit reports to the President of the Federation as required. These include without limitation thereto a monthly activity report for each branch manager and agent under their supervision. It is our hope that with the addition of these Area Business Managers, the HRFA will realize a closer association with the field force. We ask all branch managers and agents to turn to the above managers with any of your questions. In accordance with the decision of the Board of Directors, contracts have also been signed with the following individuals as Area Fraternal Coordinators: Mrs. Deneice Oroszvary, New Jersey-Eastern Pennsylvania; Mrs. Margaret Fabri, Western Pennsylvania; Mrs. Margaret Nicholas, Ohio; and Mrs. Helen-Ilona Szabó, Western Ohio and Michigan. Presently an effort is underway to find a fraternal coordinator for the Kossuth Social Club of Indiana and Illinois, as well as the Ligonier, Pennsylvania area.
