The evening came to an end with Alice McLeod leading the assembly in the singing of “God Bless America.” Our appreciation to Rose Gerzsenyi for doing such a good job each year with the Hungarian Day at Kenny wood Park! Children and adults of Branch 151 at the Christmas Party Annual Christmas Party On December 1, 2002, our branch celebrated its annual Christmas party at Ellwood City Hungarian Club. We invited all the children of the branch, together with their parents. Mike Misko, a young man of seventeen, entertained us as a Christian magician. We all enjoyed Mike’s talent and appreciated his involving the children and adults in his program. Following the program, Julie DeSantes offered a prayer before lunch was served. We had a birthday cake for Jesus, and everyone gathered around the cake to honor Him with song and Christmas carols. After the cake was served, Santa made his ap- pearance. The children sat on his knees and whispered into his ear their secret wishes for Christmas. Before Santa left, he gave the children treat bags. It was a wonderful afternoon spent in loving fellowship. We wish to thank Jeff and Julie DeSantes, Joe Fabri, Josh and Jodi Fleishman, Sam and Renee Maldonata, and Heidi and Heather Takacs for making this Christmas celebration a blessed one. A special thanks also to the Ellwood City Hungarian Club for the use of their hall. Officers for 2003 Elected The annual meeting of Branch 300 was held at the Home Office on November 12, 2002 at 12 Noon. Following the opening prayer by Branch President, the Reverend Imre Bertalan, we discussed our last year’s activities, i.e., Annual Mother’s Day picnic at Camp Olympic (Benedek Farm) with the Hungarian Scouts of Washington, DC, Join Hands Day, and the Thanksgiving dinner at Wesley Theological Seminary for five missionary students who have no relatives in the U.S. This Spring and Summer, we are looking forward to participating in the Church World Service Crop Walk on April 6th; holding a literary afternoon on May 3rd when we will be reciting our favorite poems; celebrating Mother’s Day on May 11th; and working in partnership with other fratemals on Join Hands Day, June 21st. The new officers we elected for 2003 are: Rev. Imre Bertalan, President; Tibor Pflum and Sándor Vegh, Vice Presidents; Leslie E. Megyeri, Secretary; and Iren J. Vallario, Treasurer. Branch Members Honored Branch 300 is pleased to recognize its longtime members who celebrated membership anniversaries this year, namely: William Berta, 60 years; Joseph F. Ribocie, 68 years; Joseph F. Schaffhouser and Margaret Voris, 75 years; and Joseph Nagy, 80 years. For their loyalty to the Federation, the members received a Certificate of Appreciation, as well as a membership pin from the Home Office. Mr. and Mrs. William Berta Upon our request to send us some information about themselves, we are pleased to share with our readers the response we received from Mr. William Berta. At the age of 18, Mr. Berta came with his parents to the U.S. from Békéscsaba, Hungary. As far as he can remember, his family always supported Hungarian-American organizations in the U.S., and upon the recommendation of a family friend, he joined the Federation in 1943. He married Anna Bardi, whose parents came from Kisvárda, Hungary. (Anna was bom in the U.S.) Together
