I Page 20 TESTVÉRISÉG The Pallo Folk Ensemble from Transylvania, Romania, provided the entertainment. Their music brought back many fond memories as they were playing those songs we heard and sang in the old country in our younger years. Their music also enticed the guests to take their partners to the dance floor and rediscover their abilities to dance “chardas.” Credit as well as appreciation should be given for the preparation of food and organizing the dinner dance to Mrs. Clara V. Csikesz and her husband, Mr. Joseph Fabri and his wife, Mr. Joseph Berei and his wife, Mrs. Olga Damay and her sister, Rev. Dr. Joseph Posta and his wife, and Rev. Alexander Jalso and his wife. The meat sausage (kolbász) was made by Rev. Dr. Posta and his wife and the rice sausage (hurka) by Mr. and Mrs. Csikesz. They were so good at preparing these delicacies that even before the dinner was over many guests hoped to purchase several pounds of “leftovers”, hoping that there would be plenty. In some cases the expected amount had to be reduced to satisfy as many people as possible. The whole dinner dance was a great success. We received help even “from above” because the weather was perfect, the home-made food satisfied the highest expectation, the entertainment was “music to our ears,” and the fellowship was warm and rewarding. The hall was almost full. Many thanks to those who labored so hard to make this evening a joyful and memorable one. Rev. Alexander Jalso, Branch Manager, Branches 126 & 226 724-785-4013 Aialso(a),hhs.netv Branch 176 - Hobart, Indiana A Kossuth Club “Fraternal Day” piknikjét július 8-án tartottuk meg a Merrillville, Indiana-ban lévő St. Elijah templom nagy kiterjedésű területén. Szerencsére a jó szervező munka meghozta a gyümölcsét, és még az idő is közrejátszott abban, hogy minden kifogástalan legyen. Népes társaság, sok szép család gyűlt össze. Tagjaink most is kitettek magukért a sütés—főzés terén. A töltöttkáposzta, a pecsenye, az igazi magyar kolbász mind remekül sikerült, és a lángos, meg a sütemények megtetézték a jó hazai ízeket. A szokásos lelkes csapat sütötte a pecsenyét és a kolbászt. A töltöttkáposzta előző nap készült a Szentháromság templom konyhájában. Két héttel ezelőtt volt a Hungarian American Citizen’s Club piknikje, ahol a Kossuth Club tagjai besegítettek. Ezúttal a testvér-club tette ugyanezt. Meg kell jegyeznünk, hogy nagy segítséget kaptunk a Szentháromság templomtól is, amit két hét múlva próbáltunk viszonozni a templom piknikjén. Nagyon jó a kapcsolat a két club és a Szentháromság templom között. Ez részben annak köszönhető, hogy egyetértés van a klubtagok között, hiszen majdnem mindenki tagja mindkét klubnak, valamint a jóindulatú Szentháromság templom vezetőinek, akik ennek a Clubnak otthont adnak. A vezetők közti barátság is fontos szerepet játszik ebben az együttműködésben. Az eseményre való felkészülés nagyon sok feladatot jelentett, de a munkásaink szorgalma, önfeláldozása nem mindennapi volt! Meg is lett az eredménye. A bevételünk nagyon sikeres lett, s reméljük, hogy a jövőben is tudunk minden érdemes célt úgy támogatni, ahogyan eddig tettük. Kossuth Club Kedves Tagjaink és Barátaink! Reméljük, hogy Önök és Családjaik részére a nyár szépen múlt el. Lassan beköszönt ránk az ősz. Szeptemberben újra folytatódnak a baráti összejöveteleink. Jó lesz mindenkit viszontlátni. Ugyanakkor kérjük, hogy jelöljék meg a naptárukban a következő három napot: szeptember 8, október 13, november 10, mivel ezek az eljövendő találkozásainknak a dátumai. Baráti összejöveteleinkre mindenkit szeretettel várunk. A gyűlések, mint mindig, 6:30-kor kezdődnek. Sütemény és tombola adományokat örömmel elfogadunk. We would like to notify our members and friends that our regular meetings have resumed. We will be meeting on every second Saturday of the month. Our next meeting will be on November 10, 2001 at 6:30 PM at Holy Trinity Church. Dinner is complementary; however, donations of pastries and raffle items are welcome. 95th Anniversary of Holy Trinity Church On September 9, 2001, amidst colorful costumes, American and Hungarian flags, the Holy Trinity Hungarian Church of East Chicago celebrated its 95th Anniversary. Founded in 1907 by the first large wave of Hungarian Catholic immigrants, the church gave aid and solace to many Hungarians. Three large waves of subsequent immigrants joined and strengthened the church, along with the descendants of the original founding fathers. Indeed the church was a place that helped make the transition easier to the New World. It assisted members to survive the great storms of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Church members lost loved ones and suffered many casualties during the wars. Though most of the parish members no longer live in the neighborhood, this parish remains the flagship of the Hungarian culture. Yet we strive as a church to embrace all members, regardless of race or nationality. Parish members love and support the church and its pastor of 30 years, the Rev. Alphonse Skerl. We are grateful for his leadership.
