Branch 151 - Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania 153rd Commemoration of March 15th The Hungarian Social Club of McKeesport honors and nurtures the Hungarian heritage. The Federation wishes to thank the club members for a beautiful program on Sunday March 18, 2001. It was the Commemoration of the Hungarian Independence Day, March 15, 1848. The program included singing the American and Hungarian National Anthems, and an address by Sean Logan, State Senator. The 1956 Friendly Singers. Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Executive Director of the Bethlen Home, also presented an address, in Hungarian. Joseph Fabri, HRFA Director, recited the “Nemzeti Dal.” Alida Sooky, Scoutmaster of the Hungarian Scouts of America, led the scouts as they reenacted a moving military play of the 1848 revolution. It was beautifully done. At the end of the program, the 1956 Friendly Singers sang Kossuth songs accompanied by an enthusiastic crowd. The beautiful reception offered a wonderful opportunity for socializing. Thanks to Robert Doby, President, Rose M. Gerzsenyi, Treasurer, and the club leaders for this nice event. We extend our sympathy to László Ligeti’s family. László will be sorely missed from the “1956 singing group.” As Hungarians living in the Pittsburgh area support the club financially, we will be able to continue providing Hungarian gatherings and social events to all age groups. We greatly appreciate your contribution. Partium Concert On April 26lh, many branch members, along with several members of the Duquesne Hungarian Reformed Church, attended the concert of the Partium Hungarian Christian University Choir of Nagyvarad, Romania. It was held in Ligonier, PA. We enjoyed the excellent performance by these talented college students and a delicious lunch served afterward. Julia Nagy, Secretary Olga Darnay, Branch Manager 412-466-2710 Join Hands Day June 16th was a day like no other with adults, young people and children working together. For this year’s project we helped a family no longer able to maintain their property. We brought plants and sowed a vegetable garden. We trimmed trees, shrubs and weeded the flowerbed. Children from the neighborhood helped water the plants, pull weeds and gather the debris, while proud parents looked on. The family was grateful.
