FRATERNITY Page 15 direction and strength. It is important that the vision we see be the vision God would have us see. It is important that this will be done, and that we be a part of accomplishing what He would have us do. And so the work continues, prayerfully and faithfully. By next Labor Day, visitors to the Bethlen Home will see the construction work in progress. We hope that even more people will come then to give thanks and rejoice in the goodness of our Lord. In the meantime, please continue to encourage the mission and the work of the Bethlen Home with prayer, with visits here and with financial support. May God continue to bless the members and friends of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America during this beautiful fall season! Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Executive Director From the Administrator’s Office The Bethlen Home’s residents and staff send you warm greetings from Ligonier, PA. A year has past since I first became the Administrator here at the home. Time moved quickly as our efforts remain focused on the daily operations of our campus, the building project and the renewal of our commitment to the Hungarian community and its churches. Upon my arrival, individual meetings with department heads ensued to gain an understanding of their duties and responsibilities as well as how their departments functioned. Time and observation were also utilized in this process in coming to a conclusion that detailed attention must be given to the following departments: business office and dietary. Changes were made that necessitated the elimination of some positions and the creation of some new positions. Assignment of duties and responsibilities were adapted accordingly. As with any change, you initially experience successes and failures. At this point we continue to experience both but the desired goal is in sight. When goals are reached, it is the monitoring systems that will ensure our continued successes. As you know, we continue to operate the nursing home, independent living cottages and an apartment complex. All entities are doing well as they produce revenues that exceed expenditures. Occupancy levels remain high for all three (3) entities. However, if you are in need of the services we offer there are some vacancies that exist in all three (3) facets: nursing home (8 beds), cottage units (1) The Staff of the Bethlen Home at the Groundbreaking Ceremony. and the apartments units (1). I have been in the health care industry for eight (8) years and without hesitation, I am proud to say that the residents here at the Bethlen Home receive the best of care. My experience working with Reverend Imre Bertalan, Executive Director, the staff, the Home’s Board of Directors and the Federation has been rewarding and I feel fortunate to be part of such a wonderful organization. Your support for Reverend Bertalan and myself and the Bethlen Home has been tremendous and is greatly appreciated. The Home has a rich, glorious history and I see no reason why we cannot build upon the many successes that you have enjoyed over the last eighty (80) years. Mike Walker, Administrator Picnic in Ligonier Despite an early forecast for rain, the sun shined brightly at the Bethlen Home on Sunday, July 16th. On that day more than 200 people gathered to enjoy what has become a summer tradition in Western Pennsylvania: the Annual Bethlen Home Picnic. The annual picnic began nearly 20 years ago as local branches of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America joined together in support of the Bethlen Home. Each year the branches would plan the picnic with the proceeds from the picnic dedicated in most years to the benefit of the Home. This year, more staff from the Bethlen Home took part in the picnic, together with the supporting branches. A pig was roasted, lángos was prepared, roast beef, kolbász, szalonna, hamburgers, hotdogs, fruits, vegetables, and beverages made for a full menu. A church service, games for the children, dancing to the beautiful and lively music of Dorothy and Company, tours of the Bethlen Home and the Retirement Village made for a full day. The Bethlen Home wishes to thank all who helped make this year’s picnic successful. Please mark your calendars. Next year’s picnic is on: Sunday, July 15, 2001 Mindenkit szeretettel hívjuk és várjuk!
