Page 28 TESTVÉRISÉG Illesse köszönet házigazdánkat, Benedek Istvánt, aki maga is egyesületi tag, feleségét Zsókát. Tisztiviselőink, Pflum Teri, osztálykezelő,Valerio Irénke pénztáros, Végh Edit és Sándor műsorfelelősök az osztály számos tagjával fáradtságot nem ismer szorgalommal dolgoztak, továbbá a washingtoni magyarság szeme fényét, cserkészeinket, akik Székely Krisztina parancsnok és segítő társai Csergő Zsuzsa és Kovács Éva előkészítésével most is gyönyörű műsorral köszöntötték az édesanyákat. A nap bevételét a Református Egyesület osztályélete célkitűzése szellemében jótékony célokra fordították. Segítették a Washington környéki magyar cserkészek munkáját és a július 22-én ugyancsak a Benedek tanyán rendezendő Olimpiai napot, melynek célja a Magyar Olimpiai Bizottság munkájának amerikai magyar részről jelentkező támogatása. Nt. Bertalan Imre, az osztály elnöke Our hardworking crew, l. to r: Sándor Vegh, Edit Velenyi, Teri Pflum, Irene Vallario, Andrea Bárok, and Erika Mason. Who could have better captured the mood of the day than Mrs. Phyllis Balog! Here is her letter: Dear Mrs. Vallario, Thank you for mailing us the lovely dish with its Kalocsa design. It is now displayed in our living room on a table beside a chair which has a pillow embroidered with the same pattem. They look very nice together and will serve as a reminder of a special Mother’s Day. The picnic was delightful. The cordiality of people permeated everything and many times the atmosphere made us feel as though we were in Hungary. We had a wonderful time. Köszönöm to each one of the people who helped to make the gathering such a delightful one: Rev. Bertalan and the worship service; the children and their songs, dances and recitations; the Hungarian Scouts and their dignified presentations; the cooks and servers; and all those who worked behind the scenes - everyone should be praised. Please do convey to Reverend Bertalan our appreciation of the gathering and of his donation to the tombola. Sincerely, Phyllis Balog KHSC News The Kossuth House Social Club has had a very successful and productive last few months. We continued our series of cultural events, including film screenings, a poetry evening by Kata Varga from Paris, a lecture by Dr. András Csillag from the American Hungarian Foundation, and the regular once-a-month Friday night gatherings. For the summer, we are planning many exciting outdoor events, such as hiking, biking, and sailing. Please consult our Website for further details. In January, the Voice of America radio interviewed Edit V. Velenyi, co-director, about the activities and mission of the KHSC. This interview also aired on March 16 on Magyar Rádió’s Szülőföldünk program in Hungary. In April, as part of a documentary about the Kossuth House Sándor Vegh, co-director, was interviewed by Hungarian Duna TV about the Club. The Kossuth House Social Club proposed the establishment of a Hungarian Cultural Institute in the U.S. in a satellite structure. You can read more about the proposal on our website. We also launched a page dedicated to Hungarian educational and scholarship opportunities for the community, in addition to the existing online forum.
