FRATERNITY Page 21 QStudent A>id We thank our Directors, Branch Managers and Agents for their assistance in helping our gifted young members become aware of one of the benefits of our Society, the Student Aid grant. We would like to share with our readers letters we received from some of the recipients of this aid. Carrie Ann Haydu, Member of Branch 379: “As a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I am very involved with the SLO community and am an Executive Member of the Student Community Services (SCS) Club on Campus. I was a Community Service Representative for my residence hall during my freshman year at Cal Poly and then as a Sophomore I became the Director of Community Service for all of the residence halls in SCS. I enjoy the services we perform as a club, such as helping at Special Olympic meets, feeding the homeless at the Homeless Shelter, spending time with senior citizens at the local care centers, as well as holding canned food and clothing drives (one of which I helped to setup, to collect from all the residence halls and to arrange delivery to the agency this spring quarter). I am not only involved in community service through SCS, but also through two other clubs to which I belong - the Soil Science Club and the Soil and Water Conservation Club. These clubs, which relate to my major of Soil Science, participate in activities such as beach and creek clean ups as well as provide educational activities for the public in the San Luis Obispo community. Although I do not participate in many activities through the local churches in SLO, I do practice my faith at the Mission of San Luis Obispo as well as occasionally join in activities at the Catholic Center on the Cal Poly campus. My first two years at Cal Poly have given me an ideal opportunity to become involved in the community in which I live and I look forward to the challenges ahead.” (Branch Manager, Mrs. Margaret Saltzer, recommended Carrie Ann, who is a Soil Science Major.) Laura A. Muhleck, Member of Branch 21: “I am very pleased and excited to have received a financial aid award from the HRFA. Presently, I am a junior at the University of Toledo and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in an individualized program of study with a major in business law and political science. Upon graduation, I plan on enrolling in graduate school at UT to pursue a Masters in Public Administration. I work at the Toledo Express Airport for the Federal Aviation Administration as a secretary. I have been employed there for over two years. This position is partially responsible for my interest in serving as a government employee and obtaining my degree in this field. I enjoy serving my community by volunteering with various organizations. I have spent time assisting organizations, such as: The Toledo Zoo, MS & March of Dimes walk-a-thons, and acting as a guide with airport tours. I would like to mention Mr. Albert Bacho, Manager of Branch 21, and extend my appreciation for recommending me for the scholarship. Also, my grandmother, Agnes Chorba, deserves to be thanked by me and the rest of her children/grandchildren for helping us to keep our Hungarian traditions alive. I am proud of being a part of the Hungarian culture and will actively participate in promoting its ways to others.” (“Thank you, Mr. Bacho, for touching my life with your faith in my abilities. ” Laura)
