FRATERNITY Page 17 October 19, 1985 was a memorable night in New Brunswick. Branch #302 organized its benefit annual dinner for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. The dinner was held in the auditorium of the Magyar Reformed Church, free of charge for this occasion. Cocktail hour was at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. The dinner consisted of seven courses of the most delicious dishes, beverages were also included in the 12-dollar donation per person. ELNÖKI KINEVEZÉSEK President Bertalan informed all those who were present that the Hungarian Reformed Federation is committed at least for $10,000 donation for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty, and whatever donations will come from the branches, the Home Office will match it with the same amount. Some branches sent in their contributions already, and our first check of $3,576.00 was sent to the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, which is in charge of the restoration. The President then introduced the guests of the dinner who came through Ellis Island just before or after the First World War. The guests were: Mr. & Mrs. Alex Horvath, Mr. & Mrs. Julius Gyorffy, Mr. Peter Kara, Mrs. Joseph Kaczor, Mrs. Balazs Baglyos, Mrs. Irma Beteri, Mrs. Irene Lakatos, and Mrs. Alex Farsthoffer. The recollections of Horváth Sándor bácsi, Györffy Piroska néni, and Mrs. Beteri kept the audience captive “hogy még egy légy zúgást is meg lehetett volna hallani.” A film about the history of the Statue of Liberty also was presented with some additional information by Director Piroska Hunyady, who is coordinator with the Ellis Island Committee. A miniature Statue of Liberty was presented to our “Ellis Islanders,” a courtesy of the Home Office — and we all had a very pleasant evening.
