Arpad George, Secretary -----o----DISTRICT MEETINGS It was difficult to set the schedule of our district meetings because we tried to coordinate them with the dates of the social events sponsored by our branches. The final schedule agreed upon was the following: Feb. 18—Connecticut in New York City April 14—Ohio in Cleveland May 5—Western Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh May 26—Midwest at Indiana Harbor June 2—New Jersey in New Brunswick In accordance with the resolution passed by our Board of Directors we started our meetings at 10:30 a.m., and after lunch continued until 4:30, or 5:00 o'clock, pending on the time and nature of the social event sponsored by the branches. The meetings were opened with prayers of the local pastors. The National Officers, Board of Directors, District and Section Managers were introduced by the Secretary. The Branch Managers and guests were introduced by the local District Manager. President Zoltán Beky extended the official greetings and warm welcome of the Federation. He reviewed the outstanding events and achievements of the Federation in 1972. He gave a brief summary of the resolutions passed by the Convention. He emphasized that the Federation recognizing the ever increasing humanitarian need for the care of our helpless elderly members, plans to build a new wing to the present building expanding it to the minimum capacity of a 100 bed home for the aged. The Federation also gives a substantial amount of aid to the students through the scholarship contest and also helps them with low interest loans from our Student Aid Fund. Mr. Paul St. Miklossy, Treasurer made a report about the financial status of the Federation. He was happy to state that in spite of the Convention expenses and salary increases the Federation’s assets substantially increased in 1972. He would like to have the number of the outstanding checks reduced or entirely eliminated. The Branch Managers could be a great help to him in this project by encouraging the members to cash the checks they receive from the Treasurer without delay. He made a very interesting comparison of the cash dues income collected during the past five years. The ratio of net interest income to means of assets in 1972 was 4.91%. Mr. László L. Eszenyi, Controller, first gave a brief statistical report on the year 1972. He pointed out that decrease of membership and certificates in force are the two darkest areas of our operation. Otherwise the year may be considered as average in most other respects. The 113.45 solvency ratio is a clear indication that the Federation is in a strong and healthy financial condition. Checking on the monthly reports convinced the Controller that some of the branch managers are not familiar with the rules of dues collection and do not keep branch records as prescribed by the Home Office. In order to correct this situation he held a short brush-up instruction course on these subjects and answered numerous questions asked by the branch managers. The Secretary pointed out that 1968 and 1972 were the worst production years during the past five year period. Both were Convention years. The Federation will issue new insurance plans and our new rates will be more competitive. Some of our new plans are very popular and this should be a great help in the promotional work to our Field Force. The new plans we hope will be approved by the states before the end of this year. We have already printed the new certificate forms to be submitted to the state insurance departments. We will also print our new rate book and give proper instruction to our Field Force about the new plans and rates at the September and January meetings. Thanks were expressed to Mr. Elmer Vargo, Board of Director and to Mr. László Kernes, District 13
