EASTERN AND WESTERN AREA MEETINGS

In January the National Officers and the District and Section Managers met in our New Brunswick and Cleveland Offices. By holding two meetings the National Officers were able to spend two full days with the members of the Field Force. In the morning the Secretary personally interviewed every District and Section Manager. At the interviews the 1968 production record was individually reviewed. Ample time was given for personal interpretation of the opportunities and difficulties experienced in the field.

Following the luncheon period a plenary session was held. The President extended his greetings to the Managers and presented a brief summary of the Federation’s 1968 work. It was difficult for the three National Officers to do the work of the Secretary’s department, since a vacancy occurred on February 1, 1968. The National Officers were further burdened during the year by the increased services demanded in connection with the Convention. The field workers deserve the thanks of the National Officers for their co-operation and work in view of all the complications and the lack of having a full-time secretary.

The Secretary reviewed the 1968 production. Compared the 1968 production record with the records of former years. Production comparisons were also made of our four geographical areas. The promotion plan and the production goals for 1969 were presented. Common problems voiced during the interviews were shared and discussed. A list of the department’s services was given in printed form.

The Treasurer reported on the Federation’s financial status. The figures of assets, total income and disbursements were given. It was pointed out that an increase in dues is essential to the increase of the Federation’s income. The Field Force was encouraged to work conscientiously to this desired goal. The Treasurer is happy to write out checks for larger amounts to the Managers for over production.

The Controller reported that after the resignation of the Secretary a meeting was held with the Field Force. The Managers suggested: Salary raise; uniform compensation system; absence of proper training; need for more promotional material and the undesirability of salary and expense cuts. tors; quota production figures for 1968 were accepted; new leaflets were distributed. Since the position of the Supervisors is abolished, supervisory duties must be fulfilled by the District and Section Managers in the future. In order to make this task easier the Controller will write a manual containing detailed instructions how to handle branch affairs concerning collection of dues and claim settlements. Finally the Controller read a short fluctuation summary on membership, number of certificates and insurance in force.

After the National Officers reports a discussion period was held. Questions were asked and answered by the respective National Officer to whose department the question was related.

For the evening dinner the local members of the Board of Directors and the local clergy were invited. In real and true fraternal spirit we all enjoyed the brotherly fellowship of one another. The New Brunswick and Cleveland ladies prepared excellent Hungarian meals for which we express our hearty thanks.
