FRATERNITY 7 1. The Hungarians' Freedom Struggles and Their Significance on a World Scale. 2. The Hungarians' Role in the History and Cultural Development of America. 3. American-Hungarian Reformed Social and Religious Achievements and Their Effect Upon the Life of Hungarians Throughout the World. The contestants were free to write about the topics in their entirety or on any of the following aspects of the particular subject matter chosen: literary, historic, cultural, artistic, scientific, economic, social or religious. The essays were to be judged by an impartial committee. One winner was to be selected from each of the six geographic districts: New York, which includes Connecticut and the District of Columbia; New Jersey; Pennsylvania; Ohio; Chicago, and California. The district winners were then to be examined orally by the same committee of judges and the combined scores were to determine the first, second and third prize winners. The judging of the essays and the oral examinations were held during the last week of June and the first week of July. We are happy to announce and heartily congratulate the first prize winners who will receive round-trip tickets to Budapest, Hungary, and who will be participants in our Federation’s group flight leaving Kennedy Airport on July 30, 1965: DELPHI MELINDA TOTH, age 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Toth of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Delphi, who was graduated from Warrensville Heights High School in June, distinguished herself throughout her high school years. An honor student and graduating fourth in her class of 174, Delphi was a student speaker at her commencement exercises. Her interest in Journalism led Delphi into working on her school’s yearbook and newspaper. She was editor-in-chief of the paper for two years and also won numerous journalism awards. Delphi was a student assistant in Warrensville’s guidance offices, reading laboratory and planetarium. Among her numerous interests and hobbies are: science, music (she’s a talented pianist), figure skating and reading. She was a member of Warrensville Heights’ television academic team on the TV program “It’s Academic” In September this winner will enter Western Reserve University and will consider majoring in Psychology. She is a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church whose pastor is the Rev. Stephen Csutoros, and also a member of Branch No. 2 of our Federation.
