4 FRATERNITY JOSEPH KECSKEMETHY: ITEMS OF INTEREST ONE OF US ... A PROMINENT EDUCATOR It is our privilege, once again, to introduce to our readers another outstanding member of our Federation, this time an educator. Professor of Business Education at the Monclair State College at Upper Monclair, N. J., Dr. Louis C. Nanassy is co-author of two books: BUSINESS TIMED WRITINGS and BUSINESS DICTIONARY, both published in January. BUSINESS TIMED WRITINGS contains articles for students taking typing courses through the adult levels to step up their speed and accuracy with rapidity and ease. Dr. Nanassy collaborated with Dr. Albert C. Fries in the preparation of this textbook. BUSINESS DICTIONARY, a 263-page book, is intended for students and teachers of business and social studies subjects as well as for laymen. It lists and defines the most common, up-to-date business and economic terms. Co-author with Dr. Nanassy is Dr. William Seiden. Professor Nanassy was born in Debrecen, Hungary, and as a child came to this country with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Kalman Nanassy. He is the nephew of the late Reverend Dr. Louis Nanassy, who had been Superintendent of the Bethlen Home from 1928 to 1944. As a youth he spent a number of years at our Federation’s Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, and was graduated from the neighboring Latrobe, Pa., High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the State Teachers College, Indiana, Pa.; received his master’s degree from Ohio State University, took additional work at Harvard University and was awarded his doctorate by Columbia University. Professor Nanassy taught for ten years in high schools of Pennsylvania and New Jersey before joining the faculty of Paterson (N. J.) State Teachers College in 1946 and has been a professor at the Montclair State College since 1957. Active in numerous professional organizations, a member of seven national honorary and professional fraternities, Dr. Nanassy has also been editor of numerous business education year-books and periodicals. Professor and Mrs. Nanassy (the former Evelyn Starkey, a teacher herself) have two children: Richard (age 15) and Jean (age 12). They are active members of the Pompton Lakes, N. J., Reformed Church, where Mrs. Nanassy had been a Sunday School teacher for years. Jean sings in the choir and Dr. Nanassy teaches the Adult Bible Class. He recently completed a three-year term on the board of education of his community. Not of least importance, Dr. Nanassy has been a member of the Hungarian Reformed Federation for over thirty years! Truly this is a land of opportunity! Dr. Nanassy’s life history and achievements are not only a personal triumph but also another example of what can be accomplished here even by an immigrant boy from Hungary. As we extend sincere congratulations to Professor Nanassy and his family, and recommend his professional books to our members and all interested Hungarians, we ask God’s richest blessings upon him for a life of continued success — to His glory and to the honor of the Magyar name.
