FRATERNITY 13 THIRD DAY Wednesday, May 30, 1956 27. At 9 A. M., after the singing of the hymns, “In Thee We Trusted from the Beginning” and “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”, the veteran members of the Convention led the devotion, namely, Michael Fodor, delegate, read the Bible, and William Szuch and John P. Nagy, delegates, in their prayer remembered the heroic dead of the United States and Hungary, after which the members of the Convention sang the hymns, “God Is Our Hope” and “Onward Christian Soldiers”. After the devotion Dr. Francis Újlaki opened the sixth session of the Convention. 28. Dr. Alexander Toth, Recording Secretary, read the roll call and the Convention accepted the excuses of the late-comers; after that he read the minutes of the previous day’s business which the Convention — with minor corrections — approved, and asked Francis Szarka, John Rigo and John Hollo, delegates, to attest them. 29. Upon the request of the President, Charles Papp, Vice President, presented the telegrams of greetings received by the Convention from H. S. Reuss, Congressman from Wisconsin, and from Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sala in the name of Branch No. 165 of Akron, Ohio, and also the letter of Mr. Dezső Szantay, President of the American Hungarian Federation. The Convention acknowledged the greetings with grateful thanks. 30. Charles Papp, Vice President, presented the following text of the telegram greeting the President of the United States, as composed by the appointed committee: “Honorable Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States of America, White House, Washington, D. C. “The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America in convention assembled in Ligonier, Pa., the home of its humanitarian institution, the Bethlen Home, being the largest Protestant fraternal organization of Americans of Hungarian extraction, thanks you for the ideals expressed in your address at Baylor University urging the union of all free peoples of good will to stop the encroachment of that ‘gigantic failure’. We pray that a similar union be forged of the more than 100 million people behind the Iron Curtain. May God bless your efforts in this endeavor that this dream may become a reality. — The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America.” He also presented the following text of the telegram greeting the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: “Honorable Governor George Leader, State Capitol, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. v
