14 FRATERNITY “Dear Governor Leader: The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, the largest Protestant organization of Americans of Hungarian extraction in convention assembled in Ligonier, Pa., conveys its greetings and thanks to you and the state of Pennsylvania for the gracious hospitality extended to us. — The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America.” The Convention unanimously accepted the presented compositions and charged the office of the Secretary to send the telegrams. 31. Alexander Daroczy, Vice President, presented the following text of the declaration to be issued to our Hungarian Reformed Brethren: Declaration to Our Hungarian Brethren Magyars, Brethren! We, your brethren, constituting the membership of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, now celebrating the 60th year of its existence, address ourselves to you. First with a testimony; which is, that on our often rugged road of these six decades, it was God alone, in whom we were never disappointed. Because we trusted in Him, He never allowed our face to be put to shame and our wanderers’ staff brought from the old country budded here as once did the rod of Aaron. — It is good to believe. After that we want to address you with a word of encouragement. We know your doings, your patient endurance, your sufferings, your distress. We know that as the years are rolling by over your heads and disappointments are accumulating, so is the hope of liberation fading in your hearts. But one thing you should never forget: time is God’s servant, and you had disappointments in man only, not in God. He is with you; you are of more value to Him than many sparrows; and we are with you, too: with our prayers, which will not fall back upon our heads like ashes; with our word, which reaches far; with our hands, which are extended to help. We are your advocates. God did not place us here by mere chance only. And that we cannot now help you more, materially, is hindered by your captors. We also speak to you with a word of request. Do not permit your tyrants to drive a wedge between you; do not allow room for either denominational or so-called racial discord among you. You are all participants of the same misfortune; hold together, as hands folded in prayer; and because you have learned now what slavery is, when God will bring the time of your liberation and return your prisoners as streams in the southland; see to it, that the life-form of the new, free and independent Hungary should be a Christ- interpreted democracy which values man for his own self. Our word is also addressed to our Brethren, torn off from home and compelled to other continents and countries. You are letters: of you will be read, what kind of people is that, from which you descended. You are ambassadors, too: representatives and defenders
