SUMMARY György Kardos 'Bát' as place name and 'Báti' as family nanie in documents and certiflcates related to Tolna County The author of this essay gives forth appearances of the two proper names (in title) by thoroughly examining certiflcates and numerous maps beyond the basic historic-geographic literature and archives of gazetteers. As his most significant finding, he managed to identify the exact locations of the two long-ago settlements of Bát, which were mentioned in János Weidlein's essay written in 1934. One of these settlements was located in Somogy County, south from the villages of Kánya and Tengőd, the other was between Zomba and Kakasd (in Tolna County). Furthermore, the author states and proves that the settlements of Meny, Méhes and Malontha, which were separate settlements before the 16 th century and was not evén mentioned by Dezső Csánki, disappeared or mérged intő various towns.
