Although, he was born in Pécs and directed Baranya County Archives for twenty years, his work contributed to the culture of whole Southern Transdanubia. In this essay, following a short biography, his academic work is in focus. His primary research in West European archives helped to clear blind spots of the Turkish era. Several studies, articles, conferences, presentations in Germany, Austria, Croatia and Serbia mark his work. Later he became a candidate of historical studies and an academic doctorate. His organizational work, the intellectual workshop developed under his guidance, and publications of the Archive made him a central fígure of academic life. The essay of Zsuzsa Braisch-Dobos is completed with a catalogue of publications, researches, and presentations of the recently deceased dr. László Szita. Teodóra Janka Nagy-Géza Szabó Touches to the academic portrait of József Holub József Holub was an illustrious histórián, professor and later dean at the University of Pécs. Not surprisingly, his work and walk of life had been reviewed and appreciated by many. The authors intended to add new and interesting information to the portraits displayed in time of the 120 th anniversary of Holud's birthday. The first part of the essay presents Holub's relationship to Szekszárd (primarily based on local sources) in more detail than ever before. The second part of the essay introduces somé never seen documents and letters kept in the family archives and recalls the most important milestones of Holub's professional life. 523
