140. évfolyam (2003) Supplementum 1. The role of Helicobacter pylori infection in central serous chorioretinopathy Szabó Antal,1 Molnár Béla,2 Seres András1 43 'Semmelweis University, Is' Department of Ophthalmology, Budapest 2Semmelweis University, Ist Department of Surgery, Budapest Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection has been implicated in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) and also in diffuse retinal pigment epitheliopathy (DRE). The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of H. pylori infection in our patients with CSC. Patients and methods: Eight patients with acute CSC were enrolled in the study. A 13C-urea breath test, serology, and fundus digital photography were performed. In some cases fluorescein angiography was also used. Results: Two patients were positive for H. pylori on the breath test. Serology revealed that 5 were positive for IgA-AT, and 4 for IgG-AT. Conclusion: Our results may indicate a possible role of H. pylori infection in cases of CSC. Further investigation is needed to clarify the exact mechanism of the link. 29 August 2003 Retina Section 2
