Обмен веществ в эпителии роговицы оперированных и неоперированных по поводу катаракты (афакия) молодых и старых глаз, во время заказывания контактных линз оказался одинаковым, на что указывает состав изоэнзимов LDH слезной жидкости. Обмен веществ в эпителии роговицы молодых афакических глаз, после ношения контактных линз в течение одной недели, сместился в сторону анаэробных процессов. Обмен веществ в эпителии роговицы пожилых лиц с афакией, с самого начала вырабатывающего в большей мере энергию анаэробным способом, не изменился после ношения контактных линз в течение одной недели.

The metabolism of corneal epithelium judged by the LDH isozyme composition of the tears was identical in young and senile persons with cataracts before and after surgery at the time of prescription for contact lenses. In young aphacic persons the metabolism of corneal epithelium shifted to anaerobic direction in a week after wearing contact lenses. In senile aphacic persons, where the energy producing processes of the cornea are from the onset in a greater part anaerobic, the metabolism of the corneal epithelium did not change through the same period while wearing contact lenses.

Anhand der Untersuchung der LDH-Isoenzyme der Tränen wurde festgestellt, daß der Stoffwechsel des Kornealepithels der jungen und alten, an Katarakta leidenden, operierten (aphakischen) und nicht operierten Patienten im Zeitpunkt der Verordnung der Kontaktlinse identisch war. Der Stoffwechsel des Kornealepithels der jungen aphakischen Patienten verschob sich im Laufe des 1 wöchigen Tragens der Kontaktlinse in anaerobe Richtung, während der Stoffwechsel des Kornealepithels der schon im vornherein in größerem Maße auf anaerobe Weise Energie produzierenden alten aphakischen Patienten im Laufe des 1 wöchigen Tragens der Kontaktlinse unverändert blieb.
