CSÁNKY DÉNES AZ ORSZÁGOS MAGYAR SZÉPMŰVÉSZETI MÚZEUM ÉLÉN DÉNES CSÁNKY AT THE HEAD OF THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS By Orsolya Büky SUMMARY The appointment of Dénes Csánky as director-in-chief of the Museum of Fine Arts is a less researched aspect of the art-political activity of Bálint Hóman. This is especially surprising since the personality and work of Csánky has recently been extensively explored by art historians. Due to their work, the professional profile of Csánky, long regarded as rather negative, started to emerge in a more favourable light. However, this more positive view is not really supported by a thorough analysis of archival material. Based on these sources, this paper aims not only to present a more nuanced picture of Dénes Csánky as director-in-chief, ministerial commissioner, and head of department, but also to highlight the long-term professional consequences of helping an incompetent person into a high position in oder to put into effect a given cultural political supposition. 1112
