Locuinţă, locuire şi mentalitate în zona de graniţă SUMMARY Architecture implies dwelling; Dwellings are to live in them; Man is the creator / beneficiary of architecture. The topic of this research comes from the reality provided by land research as well as by the wish to give a better understanding of the issues related to architecture and rural mentality in the northwest of Transylvania. The term architecture refers to a set of aspects related to house, habitat, space organization, lifestyle, socio-economic and political forms, symbolic and religious manifestations. Architecture creates space and space relationships by communicating through symbolic meanings42. As we refer to the Romanian traditional culture, we are submitting to analysis the material and spiritual creation. The rustic architecture - a traditional creation - is where two levels meet, where we find „technical ingenuity and craftsmanship, it is the power to adapt to the weather, to the socio-historical and economic conditions, the concern for comfort, love for beauty of a long series of generations”43. We believe that particular attention should be paid to the modern architectural elements, materials and new techniques in building, to the view of space and place, to the cultural influences and borrowings from the area that we proposed to studying and the dissolutions occurring within the vernacular architecture. Without minimizing the importance of knowing the plans that give us the house structure and functions of rooms, it is worth turning our attention to the architectural elements with symbolic value, to 42 Antongini G., Spini X, „Arhitectura”, în Dicţionarul de etnologie şi antropologie, Iaşi, Ed.
