Those deported didn’t suffer alone, their families were also victims of this disposition. Thus, it is no wonder that the main element of confessions, of individual and collective history is deportation. There is another event of the Second World War, which has radically transformed the life of the inhabitants of Ugocea. Closing the borders has made impossible the maintaining of economic, family, institutional and cultural connections. Although this situation has influenced the life of many inhabitants of the former county, the Hungarian community was mostly affected because the border line cut into two their living area. The area inhabited by Hungarians, with few exceptions, was spreading over the plain areas of the county. The basis of economy have been agriculture, animal husbandry and crafts. In the urban localities, like Vinogradov or Turulung, Salankij, Halmeu and Vilok, economy and small industry have played an important role.
