Archaeological vestiges
Archaeological vestiges There are a great number of archaeological finds on the territory of Căpleni, due to its position, on the bank of the former Swamp of Ecedea. On the territory of the settlement, the first archaeological vestiges were found during the draining of Ecedea swamp, at the end of the 19th century. Though, a great number of discoveries was made during hydrological land-management works, made between 1980 and 1986. The works made at this time, especially the sewage works of the Posta brook and Crasna river, revealed several archaeological sites with vestiges dating from different periods. The habitation of the territory of Căpleni started during the Neolithization of the region, the earliest settled communities here were linked to the Criş-Starcevo culture. During the middle Neolithic Age, the territory of the village was intensely inhabited by the civilization called the Pişcolt group (Phase II and III). The settlements of the period have been identified due to the archaeological features discovered here, like waste pits, dwellings, and pottery kilns (in pit). Ceramic fragments decorated with beautiful drawings, painted with black bitumen, stone axes, stone bludgeon, and polishers were found here. Such archaeological materials were found in the Reök-tag area, at the margins of the Post Canal, and at the Calvinist and Roman Catholic cem-Vase neolitice de la Căpleni-Cozard Neolitikus edények Kaplony-Kozárdról Neolitic vessels from Căpleni-Cozard Depozitul de bronzuri de la Căpleni Bronz raktárlelet Kaplonyból Bronze deposit from Căpleni 3
