He is also the one who started the colonization of the Schwabs in the area, a process that changed the eth­nic and confessional structure of Căpleni village. The first 63 families of German origin arrived in the locality starting with 1712. Because of poor managment, most of them left Căpleni after several years, their number decreased to less than 20 families, in 1714. The second, and more successful, wave of colonization took place between 1732 and 1774. Thus, there were nearly 40 families of German origin in the village at the end of the 18th century. The earliest written sources on the Greek-Catholic community of Căpleni date from the 18th century. Their old wooden church was mentioned for the first time in 1734. The written sources did not mention, unfortu­nately its aspect. More than a decade later, in 1748, a canonic visitation described the situation of the com­munity: there were 70 Greek Catholics in Căpleni, with­out priest. The community reached 108 members at the middle of the 19th century. The construction of the pres­ent Greek Catholic church, ended in 1887. The tower is included in the small nave and it is errected one level above it. The tower roof has an inscription containing the year when the church was built.
