Mounting the pipes for water supply of the town Carei, revealed several archaeological features of different historical periods, in the area of the high bank of Crasna river. Among these, the most pregnant were the traces of the former village of Cozard, which was mentioned in the medieval written sources. A defense ditch was made in the area of the Király-földek “fortress” during the 11th and 13th centuries. Ceramic fragments of cauldrons, clay pots and several iron objects (probably a piece of clip) were found in this area. Historical data The village of Căpleni, owned by the Kaplony kindred, was mentioned in written sources for the first time, in 1212. The identity of names between the kindred (attested as Cupulon in 1213 or Coplon in 1234) and the locality suggests that Căpleni was the center of the estates of the kindred at this time. With the division of the kindred into branches, quarrels appeared among the descending families on the ownership of the land, which was a common property until then. A part of Căpleni locality was in the possession of Paul Kaplonyi, in 1325, one of the predecessors of the Károlyi family. In the Middle Ages, the inherited lands were equally divided among the descending branches of the noble fam-Blazonul familiei Károlyi A Károlyi család címere The coat of arms of the Károlyi family 11
