Medieşu Aurit

Mediesu Aurit j Following the valley of the river, the traveler leaves Odoreu toward east and reaches Medieşu Aurit, the biggest administrative unit of the county, which comprises seven settlements: Medieşu Aurit, the center of the administrative unit, Româneşti, Băbăşeşti, Potău, Iojib, Medieş Râturi and Medieş Vii. A great number of archaeological finds were discovered in Medieşu Aurit, their importance lies in their uniqueness and ancienty, the oldest one dating back to prehistoric times. The oldest known finds known in Medieşu Aurit, dating back to the Neolithic Age. The most intense habitation in the area, however, dates from the Bronze Age. The biggest one, located in the site Ciuncaş, was a regional center in this period, being fortified with earthen walls. The walls had 25 m width and surrounded a territory of 4600 m2. Pits with vessel depositions and a golden ring were found here. It is linked to this center the princely burial found site Dâmbul Acastăului, together with the famous deposit of bronze weapons found in Apa. The territory around Medieşu Aurit was intensely inhabited by Dacian (the free Dacians) and Germanic (vandals, Gepidae) populations during the Roman period. The most inhabited areas were the terraces of the Racta and Seinei creeks, which used to be, in the same time, the terrace of the Someş River, during antiquity. The network of settlements dating from this age, situated between Medieşu Aurit and Dumbrava localities is one of the most important from north-western Romania. A settlement of potters was identified at Şuculeu, where the community of Dacians continued to make pottery in the traditions of the Laténe Age, even during Rezervaţia arheologică Mediesu Aurit - Clădirea centrală Aranyosmeggyesi régészeti park - A központi épület Archaeological park Medieşu Aurit - The central building Producerea ceramicii de către un meşter olar Fazekasmester kerémiaedényt készít Production of ceramic by a potter 11
