SZATMÁR VÁROSÁNAK ADMINISZTRÁCIÓJA 1886-BAN

Abstract: In my research I would like to present the administration of the town of Satu Mare and the challenges the leaders of the town faced on a daily basis. The 1886 edition of the town regulation is used as a source, which describes in detail the operation of the town. Satu Mare was a young town, because it recently got the title of royal free city following a long feud. The leaders of the town had to tackle duties yet unknown to them and this document provides an insight to see if they handled the newly emerging problems effectively or not. Even today many of us think that it’s fairly easy to govern a town and we are always dissatisfied with the work of our town governors. This research is not intended to defend them. Obviously, everyone could do their job better, but even I was amazed that 150 years ago how many things were taken into consideration by the mayor and council. I need to point out that this research only scratched the surface of a much larger and more complex issue but 1 hope I have raised the interest of the reader. Even though the research is mainly about administration, budgets and committees, it is quite surprising how little can change in 150 years.

Tanulmányomban szeretném röviden bemutatni Szatmárnémeti városának adminisztrációját és azokat a feladatokat, melyekkel a város vezetése mindennap szembesülnie kellett. Forrásként a város 1886-ban kiadott szabályrendeletét használtam, melyben nagyon részletesen van leírva a város működésének rendszere. Tudnunk kell, hogy Szatmárnémeti vezetése ebben a tekintetben meglehetősen tapasztalatlan volt, az 1870-es évekbeli közigazgatási reform következményeként. Ezért a város vezetősége egy számára ismeretlen feladattal kellett megküzdjön és ez a dokumentum pedig jó betekintést ad abba, hogy meglássuk sikerült e felnőniük a feladathoz a város vezetőinek vagy se. Napjainkban is sokan úgy gondoljuk, hogy egy várost irányítani és vezetni nem is olyan nehéz és mindig elégedetlenkedünk városunk vezetőinek munkájával, de ez a forrás is azt mutatja, hogy közel 150 évvel ezelőtt is számos és sokrétű problémát kellett kezelnie a polgármesternek és a városi tanácsnak, ami ma sem lehet másként.
