Although each supranational, national ar territorial body tries to retain or to recover some small bits of powers, which are being whittled away more and more, this, however leads to the need for restructuring around new decision-making centres, where regions have at their disposal real advantages of which they can make use in occupying a large crenellated building and where archives are concerned and so show evidence of activity.

„If Europe is to produce real achievements by first creating a solidarity of purpose“ as the devotees of Europe enjoy saying repeatedly, this could come true in the twinkling of an eye but the time has come to think about a redefinition of the status of archives and about a redefinition of their terms of reference within a Europe without frontiers.
