lecturer, as well. Later he was appointed to work in higher position of ecclesiastical administration as the minister of one of the largest evangelical congregation in the country. He was also the editor and publisher of some 'faith-deepening' theological and congregational periodicals. His preparatory booklet written for students who were to receive confirmation ran into nine editions in two decades. In the course of the series of national festivities in 1896 he compiled a detailed brochure of Nyíregyháza using a descriptive method. It was so useful and popular that it had to be published in reprint edition to meet the requirements 100 years later. In 1911 he was elected bishop by the evangelical institutions that belonged to the diocese of Tisza. This diocese lay in one-third of the territory of Hungary of that time. In 1917, which was the jubilee year of the Reformation, he founded the girls' evangelical grammar school in Nyíregyháza. It was the first secondary school for girls in the county that was left with a final examination certificate. In 1937, when Geduly died, the school was named after him and it bore his name until the secularization. The author studies mainly Geduly's life and work in the period of almost a half-century spent in Nyíregyháza. Therefore his work and successes in ecclesiastical history have just been touched. ARCHIVISM ISTVÁN BALOGH: Szabolcs County and its Archives 1768-1786 The acts of Parliament of 1723 influenced the development of the Hungarian public administration and jurisdiction to a significant extent. The Lord Lieutenant's work and authority were settled in them and it was also stipulated that a county administrative centre be set up and a permanent county hall and archives be built. In the 18 th century in spite of the central instructions there was a big chaos in the county archives that were entrusted to the town clerk. The general assembly of Szabolcs county signed an agreement with Ferenc Schemberger on putting the archives in order in 1767. The counties experienced several changes in public administration during the period he was working here mentioned above in the title. In 1768 a decree entitled 'Instructio super comitem' by the council of governor-general invested Lord Lieutenants with a wide directing and controlling sphere of authority.
